II. Chip breaking and chip removal
The cutting of the drill bit is carried out in a narrow hole in space, and the chips must be discharged through the drill bit edge groove, so the chip shape has a great impact on the cutting performance of the drill bit. Common chip shapes include flake chips, tubular chips, needle chips, conical spiral chips, ribbon chips, fan chips, powder chips, etc.
The key to drilling - chip control
1 Fine chip clogs the cutting groove, affecting the drilling accuracy, reducing the life of the drill bit, and even breaking the drill bit (such as powdered chip, fan chip, etc.);
2 Long chip wraps around the drill bit, hinders operation, causes the drill bit to break or prevents the cutting fluid from entering the hole (such as spiral chip, ribbon chip, etc.).
How to solve the problem of inappropriate chip shape:
1 The effect of chip breaking and chip removal can be improved separately or in combination with methods such as increasing feed, intermittent feed, grinding the cross blade, installing chip breaker, etc., and eliminate the problems caused by chip cutting.
2 You can use a professional chip-breaking drill to punch holes. For example, adding a designed chip blade to the groove of the drill bit breaks the chip into a debris that is easier to remove. The debris is smoothly removed along the groove and will not be blocked in the groove. Therefore, the new chip-breaking drill has obtained a much smoother cutting effect than the traditional drill bit.
At the same time, the short fragmented iron chips make it easier for the coolant to flow to the drill tip, further improving the heat dissipation effect and cutting performance during the processing process. And because the new chip blade penetrates the whole groove of the drill bit, it can still maintain its shape and function after many repairs. In addition to the above functional improvements, it is worth mentioning that the design strengthens the rigidity of the drill body and significantly increases the number of holes drilled before a single grinding.
